Hikvision releases panoramic camera range with ColorVu for wide field of view in vivid color

May 11, 2022 – Hikvision has released a new range of panoramic cameras that use integrated ColorVu technology to provide vivid and full-color video imaging for a wide field of view in light conditions as low as 0.0005 lux: nearly total darkness.

Large areas can be very difficult to secure, often requiring multiple cameras to provide full coverage. With traditional cameras, monitoring these kinds of area can also be difficult in low light conditions, or at night.

To address all of these challenges, Hikvision has integrated ColorVu into our industry-leading panoramic cameras, which use the ‘image fusion’ algorithm to stitch together images from two side-by-side lenses for a seamless, 180-degree view.

The results are reduced equipment requirements (with fewer cameras needed to cover large areas); improved situational awareness based on a single, wide-angle image and no blind spots; and the ability to capture every detail in full color – even in near-total darkness.

A super-wide angle view, with no blind spots

Hikvision image fusion technologies in the new panoramic cameras provide significant benefits over traditional wide-angle cameras. By using ‘pixel-level’ matching between the images from the left-side and right-side sensors, this prevents any blind spots, or image ‘twisting’, or ‘distortion’.

Equally importantly, the image fusion process includes both brightness and color processing technologies that ensures consistency across the entire wide-angle image. This is a significant improvement vs. traditional panoramic cameras, which do not compensate for the different lighting conditions experienced by left- and right-side lenses.

AI capabilities that further boost security

All models in the new panoramic camera range use Hikvision AcuSense AI technology to differentiate between real security threats and other moving objects such as animals, falling leaves, and heavy rain. This helps security teams to focus on real security incidents, and to minimize costly false alarms.

Additionally, the devices can be equipped with Hikvision Live Guard sound and light alarms, which deter would-be trespassers from entering sites or buildings – preventing losses or damage to property and improving safety.

Ideal for multiple scenarios and locations

The new panoramic cameras provide reliable 24×7 security in a wide range of expansive indoor and outdoor locations. These include parking lots, parks, scenic areas, farms, stadiums, and traffic intersections.

Hikvision Launches New Turbo HD X Security Solutions

Hikvision, the world’s leading supplier of innovative security products and solutions, launches the latest generation Turbo HD Series – Turbo HD X, which is a complete system to help stopping intruders in real-time, and avoiding damage and loss of property.

From passive monitoring to active deterrence, in a wide variety of applications
The Hikvision Turbo HD X series of cameras has a built-in detector that captures infrared light emitted by human bodies, distinguishing it from other visual ‘noise’. Once the camera detects a potential intruder, its built-in siren flashes red and blue light and a loud sound with the aim of frightening the intruder away.

The Turbo HD X series can support a broad range of perimeter protection and security system processes for in-process warning, and evidence collection after an event. It enables transformation of the traditional monitoring and post-event investigation approach, and helps to change perimeter protection from passive monitoring to active deterrence in order to protect people and assets. It can be used in warehouses, residences, jewellery stores and more.

A complete end-to-end system
More importantly, the Turbo HD X is a complete and unified system, featuring front-end devices linking to back-end devices and a remote application. As the front-end alarm sends a warning to potential intruders, the system also triggers an alarm at the back-end, to notify security personnel. Users can also receive alarm information remotely, via an application on their mobile devices.Even better false-alarm reduction
Turbo HD X cameras can also be integrated with Hikvision’s cutting-edge AcuSense DVRs. The intelligent false-alarm reduction technology within these DVRs will disregard irrelevant movements picked up by the camera – such as rain, leaves and animals – and instead focus exclusively on human or vehicle movement. Together, this integrated solution dramatically reduces the number of false alarms, and ensures security staff focus on actual targets for greater efficiency.

Building on already impressive functionality
All of this builds on the impressive functionality that has been delivered by Hikvision’s Turbo HD DVRs and cameras since their launch in 2013. In addition to impressive HD image clarity, the last six years of Turbo HD products have delivered a wealth of innovations to the market, including super-efficient bandwidth and storage usage and ultra-low-light video recording – all helping customers to enhance their security and perimeter protection.

Frank Zhang, the President of the International Product and Solution Center at Hikvision says, “Once again, we are bringing fresh ideas and new possibilities to the industry. Usually, video surveillance records are only searched for evidence after someone has suffered the consequences of an intrusion. However, criminals may give up further actions if they believe their behaviour has been detected. By stopping intruders in their tracks, the Hikvision Turbo HD X can help our customers to avoid costly damage and loss of property.”

Enhanced perimeter protection with Hikvision thermal products

The latest generation of cost-effective thermal cameras from Hikvision make it faster and easier for small and medium businesses to secure their perimeter – even in the dark, and in challenging weather conditions such as fog, heavy rain, and snow.

The perimeter is the first line of defence against intruders who could put people or assets in danger. How to ensure detection and response to perimeter intrusions quickly and effectively, even in low-visibility conditions?

For many forward-looking businesses, the answer is to deploy thermal cameras, which offers a number of advanced benefits.

1) The ability to ‘see’ intruders in low-visibility conditions
In complex light environments, at night, or in severe weather conditions, many conventional ‘visible light’ cameras may not be able to recognize intruders and alert security teams. By contrast, thermal cameras can recognize tiny changes in temperature, allowing them to detect people or vehicles that cross perimeter boundaries even in extremely low-light or low-visibility conditions.

2) Human and vehicle recognition for minimal false alarms
Some thermal cameras incorporate deep learning algorithms to distinguish humans and vehicles from animals, falling leaves, and other moving objects that could otherwise trigger false alarms. This means that intrusion alarms are only triggered when a real perimeter threat is identified, which supports a faster response with far less time spent analysing footage and investigating false alarms.

3) Increased efficiency for perimeter protection
Another key benefit of thermal cameras is that they are effective at longer distances than many conventional ‘visible light’ cameras. This means that small and medium businesses can reduce equipment and installation costs for their perimeter-protection solutions, while also monitoring camera feeds with fewer team members.

Hikvision thermal cameras for perimeter protection
Hikvision offers a range of affordable thermal cameras that are ideally suited for perimeter protection in small and medium applications such as residential areas, office buildings, car parks, factories, stores, and even museums.

With Hikvision’s leading thermal camera range, detection in real time of people or vehicles that breach perimeter defences is made possible, even in low-light and poor-visibility conditions. As an added benefit, overlay of traditional video images on top of thermal camera images is possible, which ensures availability of evidence needed to support legal processes or insurance claims in the event of a perimeter breach.

Hikvision thermal cameras in action
Hikvision’s range of thermal turret, bullet, and speed dome cameras are already being deployed in many perimeter protection solutions for housing developments, car parks, factories, stores, farms, and even museums.

In one example of a successful project, a leading car brand is protecting one of its European dealerships 24 hours-a-day with Hikvision thermal cameras. In this case, the Hikvision camera alerts security teams if perimeter defences are breached, enabling a real-time response to prevent the theft of vehicles or parts.

When cutting-edge video meets analog infrastructure

Upgrading a two-wire analog intercom to a conventional IP video system typically involves messy and costly rewiring work. So what happens if you want to install over 500 IP systems into a single building? One company, Hikvision, has developed an innovative two-wire solution – and it’s already making waves at the luxurious RiverGate condominium in Singapore.

“If someone rang the bell at the side entrance, it wouldn’t always ring in my apartment upstairs,” says the chairman of the condo council, who lives at the RiverGate condominium in River Valley, Singapore. “Visitors often had to call me to let them in, and I would have to travel down 20 floors to the main entrance. It became incredibly frustrating.”

The resident’s story is typical of millions of residents across Asia, where high rise living is the norm. In Singapore, the first condominiums were built back in the 1960s, to tackle the challenge of high population density and soaring land costs. Today, high-rise living in Singapore is not only necessary but highly desirable, with many condominiums offering swimming pools, spas, sky-gardens and a host of other deluxe facilities at exclusive locations across the island.

Nevertheless, even the most luxurious apartment blocks are wrangling with aging access control systems. Many systems only work intermittently, while all but the newest builds feature intercoms that use outdated two-wire analog cabling. “The intercoms in Asia’s condos are crying out for an upgrade to IP, but the infrastructure just doesn’t support it,” says Daniel, Engineering Director at Serron Technology.

The dream: IP video

Making the move to IP intercom systems is a logical step, as it would offer a host of benefits to Asia’s high rise residents. First of all, IP systems are video-based and can work with HD cameras, giving homeowners crystal clear images of who is at the door potentially dozens of floors below. What’s more, they also typically link to an app, so residents can see and interact with the person at the door – even when they’re not in the apartment. “Video IP systems are much more functional, more future-proof, and incredibly reliable,” adds Daniel.

The problem is, most of today’s IP intercom systems typically need to replace wire for an internet connection – and that means an upgrade to the building itself. “To upgrade to an IP system across a whole condo… that’s a massive job,” Daniel confirms. “Chasing out walls and replacing wiring is disruptive, messy and time-consuming. Plus it’s expensive, and management companies would have no choice but to pass this cost on to residents.”

Two wires? No problem

Although it may seem like an impossible problem, one company – Hikvision – has provided an excellent solution. As its product name suggests, the company’s Two Wire IP Video Intercom System is purpose-built to work over existing two-wire cabling, so that two wires supply power and transmit voice, video and control signals at the same time.

At the heart of the Hikvision two-wire system is the Two-Wire Video/Audio Distributor (DS-KAD706). It’s this intelligent box that makes the two-wire solution possible by consolidating power and internet connectivity, enabling it to be distributed out to the external door video stations and the indoor video units.

HD video in action

At Singapore’s luxurious RiverGate complex, the management team was so impressed with the potential of the Hikvision two-wire solution that they have already installed it into the condominium.

Each of the 545 apartments within RiverGate has a Hikvision Intercom Indoor station (DS-KH6320-WTE2) featuring a video screen, while each of the entrances to the building has a Video Intercom Door Station (DS-KD8102-V) featuring an HD camera. If someone calls an apartment via a door station downstairs, it rings the appropriate indoor screen. The resident can see the visitor and have a conversation with them, before letting them in with a simple tap of the screen.

The RiverGate central management offices also have the Hikvision Video Intercom Master Station (DS-KM8301), to monitor the building perimeter and control entry. Plus the complex has installed a number of Hikvision’s Waterproof and Vandal-proof Card Readers (DS-K1104M), to ensure that only authorized individuals can move around the building.

What’s more, by downloading the HikConnect app, residents can be alerted to a visitor when they’re away from the video unit, or when they’re out of the premises entirely. The app offers the same functionality as the video screen – allowing residents to see visitors, speak to them, and even choose to let them into the building.

Reliable, functional, innovative

The benefits of the new Hikvision system are far-reaching. From a building management perspective, the ability to use the existing two-wire system has kept installation costs to a minimum.

“Hikvision’s Two Wire Video Intercom System is a market-leading product, and ideal for retrofitting and modernizing large residential and office building projects. Across Asia, there are thousands of high rise buildings whose access control systems desperately need upgrading. This sleek system provides a cost-effective and elegant IP-based solution – one that’s ideal for high end residential or commercial environments – for minimal cost and disruption.” Jacky Xie, the project manager at Hikvision is very optimistic about the potential of the two-wire solution.

And of course, it’s had a huge impact on RiverGate’s residents, “The new intercom does more than the old system. I particularly like the functionality of mobile app – I can use my phone to let visitors come in even when I don’t have access to the indoor device, like when I’m not at home or using the bathroom.”

“It’s also such a relief to have an access control system that works reliably. I love it; it’s more convenient, it’s really easy to use, and I feel safer.”

Adaptability in Adverse Conditions – Hikvision Explosion-Proof and Anti-Corrosion cameras

Hikvision’s Explosion-proof and Anti-Corrosion series offer special cameras for applications in hazardous and extreme environments.

The explosion-proof cameras use 3.5-mm thick stainless steel housing and a specially-designed joint to help prevent internal explosion. With Hikvision explosion-proof cameras monitoring can be done remotely, leading to increased safety and security without requiring the presence of personnel in hazardous areas. Hikvision explosion-proof cameras are ideal for applications such as factories, chemical plants, oil and gas stations.

Salt, humidity, and chemical contamination can significantly harm electronic devices, especially with continuous exposure. Hikvision anti-corrosion cameras, constructed of 316L grade (also known as marine grade) stainless steel, are robust enough to withstand most corrosive environments. The cameras’ corrosion-resistant design is resilient to salty sea air, making it suitable for chemical, marine, naval, underwater, and other corrosive environments.

Explosion-Proof Series Cameras

Hikvision’s Explosion-Proof Series Cameras have passed rigorous tests and certifications. They are robust enough to operate in hazardous environments such as factories, chemical plants, oil and gas stations, and more. Additionally, the cameras’ remote monitoring features allow users to minimize human presence in the most hazardous areas.

Hikvision’s Explosion-Proof Series Cameras can operate in hazardous environments and are remotely monitored.

Anti-Corrosion Series Cameras

Protected by anti-corrosion coatings and constructed of 316L stainless steel, Hikvision’s Anti-Corrosion Series Cameras are robust enough to withstand most corrosive environments, making them suitable for chemical plants, seaports and container terminals, offshore drilling platforms, and even water parks.

Hikvision’s Anti-Corrosion Series Cameras can withstand most corrosive environments.

More security and peace of mind with Hikvision Explosion-Proof and Anti-Corrosion cameras

Hazardous and extreme environments create unique security challenges, especially for devices which can either become damaged easily, or even create fire or explosion risks due to flammable liquids or gases in the vicinity. To protect people and assets reliably in some of the most challenging environments in the world, Hikvision has created the Explosion-Proof and Anti-Corrosion camera ranges.

Hikvision Explosion-Proof cameras – preventing workplace accidents

At sites where combustible gases, chemicals, powders, or other flammable materials are present, fire and explosions are a constant risk. This means that companies working with flammable materials need electrical and other equipment that never creates sparks or flames as these can lead to an explosion.

This makes traditional security cameras unfit for the job. With their plastic casings, sparks and flames triggered by a short circuit or other fault in the device can quickly come into contact with the atmosphere or nearby equipment. Where flammable materials or gases are present, there is a significant risk that this could cause a fire or explosion.

Hikvision Explosion-Proof cameras are designed to overcome this challenge. The camera lenses and circuitry are enclosed in a 3.5mm thick stainless-steel casing. They also use a cylindrical flame-proof joint design inside the sealed stainless-steel to ensure that any explosion can be contained.

These two design features mean that Hikvision Explosion-Proof cameras can withstand up to 1.5x the pressure of an explosion inside the camera, for example, caused by a fire that starts inside the camera for electrical or other reasons. This means that no spark or flames that originate in the device itself can ever come into contact with the surrounding environment to cause a fire or explosion – giving customers full peace of mind.

Hikvision Explosion-Proof cameras are widely used in petroleum refineries, chemical plants, dusty workshops, gasoline stations, gas stations, metal factories, and other settings where flammable liquids or gases may be present.

Full compliance with explosion-proof standards

Hikvision Explosion-Proof cameras use qualified 304 or 316L stainless steel and are fully compliant with explosion-proof certifications such as ATEX and IECEx. Strict quality control during the manufacturing process ensures that every device offers maximum protection against fire and explosion risks.

Hikvision Anti-Corrosion cameras – hardened against the elements

When it comes to providing security in corrosive environments – such as chemical factories or offshore oil or gas platforms – cameras and other devices must be ‘hardened’ against the elements. In these kinds of extreme settings, regular security cameras with plastic casings may have a very short lifespan due to the corrosive nature of salt and other compounds and their impact on wiring, soldering, and electrical and electronic components.

Hikvision Anti-Corrosion cameras solve this challenge using a combination of 316L stainless steel cladding covered with anti-corrosive paint that protects sensitive components against all kinds of corrosive compounds. The cameras’ super-tough materials and engineering provide long-term protection from salty sea water and air, and are suitable for chemical, marine, naval, underwater, and other corrosive environments.

The Hikvision Anti-Corrosion cameras have proved their worth in a multitude of marine and other corrosive settings. In one project, a Greenland shrimp trawler has been equipped with the cameras to monitor onboard operations and to secure valuable catches. The Hikvision equipment, which is constantly exposed to sea air and water, and extremely low temperatures, is performing very well.

Full compliance with anti-corrosion standards

The whole series of Hikvision anti-corrosion cameras are certified with C5-M standard, which means these cameras can be used in coastal and offshore areas with high salinity. C5-M is the highest standard for anti-corrosion devices, applying to the most challenging marine environments where devices are in constant contact with sea air and water.

Using 316L stainless steel cladding and anti-corrosion paint, the cameras are also fully compliant with the NEMA 4X standard.
