Hikvision’s new DVR and NVR series, both based on a Netra platform, provide dual self-adaptive gigabit network interfaces to benefit your video surveillance system. In terms of multi-address, load balance, network fault tolerance, etc., Hikvision has you covered.

A prime example is with multi-address; as before, due to single network interface, previous DVR/NVRs were only able to be connected to one single network. More specifically, two separate clients (or customers) in two dedicated networks (LAN/WAN) were not able access the same DVR/NVR units at the same time.

But thanks to dual network interfaces – with multi-address, two different IP settings can now be configured to allow network access from two dedicated networks. Hence, two different workgroups, from separate subnets, are able to access the same DVR/NVR and read video recording files or configure data onto the same system.(read more)…

Moreover, if network congestion, network outage, or various other connectivity problems affect one network; video stream data can still be read or written from an additional network throughout another interface.

And, speaking of reliability: dual-gigabit network interface ability not only improves system reliability, but also ensures both seamless video recording with load balancing and network fault tolerance. Additionally, load balancing in respect to the bandwidth is also achieved. As such, optimal resource utilization, maximized transfer speed, minimized response time, and avoidance of overload by distributing workload across two network interfaces; while network fault tolerances allow the DVR/NVRs to sustain any possible failure on only one network port – thus providing continuous service and optimal performance to the user!

Feature Article – Bringing thermal expertise to outdoor enthusiasts

The world’s leading provider of innovative security products and solutions, Hikvision, is bringing its innovation and experience in thermal technology to the outdoor market.

The use of technology in outdoor activities like scouting, hunting and birdwatching has grown in popularity.  As with other human endeavours, technology is providing an edge to the experience, making things clearer, easier and safer.

One example of this is Thermal technology, which can help outdoor enthusiasts to spot an elusive animal by picking up its heat signature. In fact, all objects radiate a different level of radiation – a value known as emissivity. Thermal devices can pick up the differences in emissivity, which means they can build a picture of an area even in the dark, fog or other limited visibility environment.

Hikvision has long been developing thermal cameras for security purposes and has now even developed its own thermal sensor.  The success of these products has led the company to create handheld products – currently Thermal & Optical Bi-spectrum Binocular and Thermal Monocular products. Because these have strong applications in the outdoor and hunting markets, they are now being offered to outdoor enthusiasts.

This means Hikvision thermal handheld products can provide the latest tracking technology to outdoor enthusiasts – whether they are bird-spotting, engaged in wildlife management or sport hunting.

Hikvision is the world’s leading provider of innovative security products and solutions. The company is an innovation powerhouse, with more than 34,000 employees, over 16,000 of which are R&D engineers. The company annually invests 7 – 8% of its annual sales revenue to research and development for continued product innovation. This has enabled Hikvision to establish a complete, multi-level R&D system that includes every operation from research to design, development, testing, technical support, and service.

Beating traffic jams with intelligent video technology

Quality of life in many cities around the world is being impacted by heavy traffic – both in terms of citizen mobility and air-pollution problems. To help combat these challenges, many cities are turning to intelligent video technologies that provide real-time insights to improve traffic flow and to maximise safety on urban roads.

Across the world, many urban road networks are already saturated. This causes long delays for drivers, increasing frustration and reducing productivity. It also creates major public health risks due to poor air quality. Together, the effects of excessive traffic negatively impact city dwellers’ quality of life and the sustainability of cities.

According to one study from INRIX, a leading provider of transport insights, Los Angeles commuters spent over 100 hours a year in traffic jams in 2017 – more than any other city in the world. Additionally, London traffic jams cost drivers the equivalent of £2,430 (USD$3,135) each, equal to more than £9.5 billion (USD$12.3 billion) across the city as a whole.

A major headache for city authorities
Needless to say, traffic becomes a headache for city administrators, particularly in cities where rapid urbanisation and economic growth have led to increased ownership of vehicles.

To find long-term solutions, city authorities are looking into the root causes of traffic congestion. In Hong Kong, the city’s Transport Advisory Committee published a report identifying the top-three causes of excessive traffic. These are: “too many vehicles on roads”, “illegal parking”, and “too much road works” – all factors that contribute heavily to traffic jams in cities worldwide.

How technology can help
In many cities, building new road capacity is not an option – either because of available space, disruption to economic activities, or budgetary constraints. In these circumstances, city authorities are beginning to look to smart technologies to make people’s journeys faster and safer.

In the portfolio of available traffic easing technologies, latest-generation video technology is the star. In particular, innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning have transformed standard video monitoring with features that alert operators about traffic issues in real time. This allows them to take immediate action to keep lanes clear and to keep traffic flowing.

Three solutions with intelligent video technology for free-flowing cities
Next generation video solutions are already helping city authorities to reduce congestion and deliver major time savings for drivers. These examples are:

1)    Traffic guidance
This kind of solution uses cameras installed at major intersections to monitor and report on real-time traffic flow. It works by constantly observing the flow of traffic lanes, and by counting vehicles within defined areas of the road. Data is then sent to traffic management control centres where operators can see the build-up of traffic across the city and take appropriate actions to speed up traffic flow.

This kind of solution can also display congestion information for drivers at each intersection, helping them predict their arrival time and – if delays are serious or persistent – to choose alternative routes or travel options.

2)    Traffic signal control
Traffic signal control solutions allow traffic lights to be coordinated to keep traffic flowing as freely as possible. They consume traffic data from traffic guidance systems to understand where traffic is building up at an intersection. Then, they coordinate traffic lights to even out the traffic flow, reducing drivers’ frustration and eliminating the need for manual intervention by traffic police when traffic builds up in one direction.

3)    Traffic enforcement
In many cases, traffic congestion is caused by illegal or irresponsible road use, including illegal parking and use of bus lanes. With traffic enforcement video solutions such as wrong-way driving detection, illegal U-turns and illegal parking detections, these kinds of incidents can be identified automatically. This allows operators in traffic control centres to alert the authorities who can take action in real time to improve public safety and to hold drivers accountable.

A better future for congested cities
With urban traffic management now topping the agenda for most city authorities, intelligent video technology is a beacon of hope. By monitoring traffic in real time, these kinds of solutions allow city authorities to take immediate action to ease bottlenecks – reducing drivers’ frustration, reducing lost productivity and improving urban air quality. Additionally, real-time incident detection helps to improve overall driving standards, which ultimately reduces the number of accidents and saves lives.Continue Shopping
